The Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio made a passionate address to the assembly on the day the Paris Agreement was signed.

Leonardo DiCaprio gave another stellar performance, this time to the UN General Assembly in New York, imploring world leaders to tackle climate change head-on.

Adding Hollywood stardust to the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on counteracting global warming, the Oscar-winning actor, who has previously spoken at the UN on climate change, gave an impassioned five-minute address first quoting Abraham Lincoln and then giving real examples of climate change devastation he had personally witnessed on his travels as a UN messenger of peace.

DiCaprio then exhorted leaders to act because “our planet cannot be saved unless we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they belong.

“After 21 years of debates and conferences, it is time to declare no more talk, no more excuses, no more 10-year studies, no more allowing the fossil fuel companies to manipulate and dictate the science and policies that affect our future,” he added.

The Revenant star finished on a rousing note, telling the UN assembly that it was “the body that can do what is needed, all of you sitting in this very hall. The world is now watching. You will either be lauded by future generations or vilified by them.”
